Nocturia is often described as the most bothersome of all urinary symptoms and is also one of the most common. The chances of being affected increase with age with 1 in 3 adults older than age 30 making at least two trips to the bathroom every night.

The condition is often considered a trivial matter, but it needs to be taken seriously because it does significantly impact the quality of one’s life and everyone around them. Sleep disturbances and the resulting sleep deprivation from Nocturia can impair daytime functioning, work productivity (performance, concentration, memory), health and overall quality of life.

There is also a significant financial aspect associated with Nocturia. The disorder costs an estimated $62.5 billion dollars each year due to lost productivity, sick leave and fall injuries. Despite its relative frequency, Nocturia is often under-reported, poorly managed and inadequately treated.
